Two day therapeutic surf camp for women, trans, and gender diverse folks in Grand Bend.
Who We Are
JJRT is a community-rooted recreation therapy practice offering inclusive, trauma-informed programs that support mental health, identity, and self-expression through creative and accessible leisure.
Siren Section is a female and 2SLGBTQ+ surf and skate collective creating inclusive space for individuals to try new sports, grow together, and build confidence.
Camp Details
What: A 2-day immersive experience combining beginner surf instruction with nature-based therapeutic recreation activities.
When: August 7 & 8, 2025 | 10a-4p | transportation from London, ON available
Where: Pinery Provincial Park (near Grand Bend)*
Who: ~17-35 year old | woman, trans, gender diverse folks with little to no surfing experience
*this camp will be facilitated on Treaty 29 territory. The First Nation communities within this Treaty are the Aamjiwnaang, Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point, Chippewas of the Thames and Oneida Nation of the Thames. Land acknowledgments are merely the first step. Our recognition and fight for indigenous sovereignty will not end here.
Camp Overview & Flow
Each day will include a welcome circle, surf instruction, therapeutic activity (including forest bathing, expressive arts & more), provided lunch, closing circles and the last day will feature a collective art piece.
Every part of the day is voluntary. There will be opportunities for scheduled and unscheduled breaks
Therapeutic Themes: Trust & Resilience.
The therapeutic themes will be woven throughout daily activities.
Day 1 Structure:
10 am Arrival & setup
10:30 am Introduction and land acknowledgement
11 am Surf Instruction & Forest Bathing
12:30 pm Shared lunch + community reconnection
1:30 pm Surf Instruction & Forest Bathing
3 pm Group closing circle
3:30 pm Take-down
4pm Leave beach
