JJRT Core Programs & Services

At Jess Jones Recreation Therapy, we offer a dynamic blend of Core Programs and Monthly Experiences to meet you where you’re at—no matter your age, ability, or stage of life. Our Core Programs are consistent, evolving offerings that form the heart of JJRT. These include services like 1:1 Recreation Therapy, youth development groups, inclusive culinary programs, therapeutic day trips, and more. They’re always available and grounded in therapeutic recreation principles.

Alongside these, we offer Monthly Experiences and Pop-Ups—unique, one-time workshops, seasonal events, and pilot programs that bring variety and creativity to our calendar. These are designed to be fun, fresh, and responsive to what our community is excited about right now.

1:1 Recreation Therapy 

Our 1:1 Recreation Therapy services are designed to support individuals of all ages and abilities in discovering the healing power of leisure. Whether you're navigating a life transition, managing mental health challenges, building life skills, or simply looking to reconnect with joy and purpose—this service is for you.

We offer two options for individual sessions:

With Jessie Jones, CTRS – $140/hour
Work directly with our founder and Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist. Jessie brings over a decade of experience in clinical and community-based recreation therapy and specializes in expressive arts, music, Leisure Education, and self-discovery. 

With a Recreation Therapy Assistant (RTA) – $120/hour
Work with a skilled Recreation Therapy Assistant under the clinical supervision of Jessie Jones, CTRS. This option offers quality, person-centered care at a lower cost, while still maintaining the high standards of JJRT’s therapeutic model.

What to Expect: Your Recreation Therapy Journey


Discovery Session & Tour


We start with booking you in for a Discovery Session & Tour to learn about your needs, answer your questions, and ensure JJRT is the right fit for you.

Initial Assessment


Your first session includes a structured assessment to explore your interests, challenges, and goals. We use this to develop your individualized therapeutic plan.

Personalized Sessions


Based on your plan, we co-create meaningful, goal-driven sessions using recreation as a tool—this may include art, music, games, movement, or community-based experiences.

Ongoing Evaluation


We track progress and adjust your plan as needed, ensuring that every session continues to meet your evolving needs.

Reflection & Closure


When it’s time to transition or discharge, we reflect on your journey, celebrate growth, and support you in continuing your wellness through leisure.

Our 1:1 services are ideal for:

 

  • Children, youth, adults and seniors with disabilities 

  • Individuals experiencing grief, anxiety, or life transitions

  • Those seeking meaningful routine, identity exploration, or personal development

  • Families needing therapeutic support beyond traditional models

Counselling via Social Worker

1:1 counselling at JJRT is led by an RSW. It provides individualized therapeutic support to help clients navigate emotional, social, and behavioural challenges. This service is designed to offer a safe, confidential space where individuals can develop coping strategies, improve self-awareness, and build resilience.

Family Recreation Therapy & Counselling

Family Recreation Therapy 

 

$90 per person per hour | Led by Jessie Jones, CTRS

Family Recreation Therapy is a dynamic, hands-on service that uses shared leisure experiences as a way to strengthen relationships, improve communication, and promote emotional regulation across the family unit. Led by Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Jessie Jones, CTRS, this service is ideal for families navigating:

  • Grief or loss

  • Family transitions (e.g., separation, reunification, relocation)

  • Neurodiversity or disability within the family

  • Disconnection or conflict between members

Each session is strengths-based, experiential, and creatively designed to meet your family where you’re at—using tools like art, play, music, games, or outdoor experiences to foster connection and healing in an approachable, supportive way.

This service includes an initial assessment, goal setting, and personalized session planning that evolves with your family’s needs.

Family Counselling Eligible for Extended Health Benefits


$90 per person per hour | Led by a Registered Social Worker (RSW)

Family Counselling at JJRT offers therapeutic conversation and emotional processing in a safe, trauma-informed environment. Led by a Registered Social Worker (RSW), this service supports families in navigating complex emotions, communication breakdowns, and relationship challenges with guidance rooted in:

  • Attachment theory

  • Trauma-informed practice

  • Equity-based, client-centered care

This service is especially helpful for families seeking to process past experiences, strengthen emotional safety, and learn new ways of showing up for one another through structured, facilitated dialogue.

Respite & Companion Service

$55/hour | 3-hour minimum per visit
+ $0.70/km travel fee
​ - eligible for SSAH, PASSPORT and Flex Funds

JJRT’s Respite and Companion Services are designed to provide meaningful support and relief for caregivers, while ensuring your loved one is engaged, empowered, and cared for with heart.

Led by our team of Life Enrichment Specialists (LES), Child and Youth Care Practitioners (CYC), and Recreation Therapy Assistants (RecTAs), each session is more than just time spent—it’s a chance to connect through play, conversation, creativity, or calming routines.

We proudly support:

 

  • Children, youth, adults, and seniors

  • Individuals with disabilities, neurodiversity, or mental health challenges

  • Families in need of safe, enriching, and reliable respite care

 

Sessions can take place:


🏠 At home – offering comfort and familiarity
🏢 At our center – a vibrant, inclusive environment
🌳 In the community – for social, leisure, or outdoor experiences

From a nature walk or baking activity, to shared storytelling or simply relaxing together, our team tailors each visit to the individual—ensuring dignity, joy, and meaningful interaction.

 

All services are delivered under the clinical supervision of a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) to ensure therapeutic value and safety.

Therapeutic Coaching & Counselling

$130/hour Counselling with Registered Social Worker (RSW)
$100/hour Therapeutic Coaching under RSW supervision | 3-hour minimum booking

Eligible for OAP Funding, SSAH, Passport 

Our Therapeutic Coaching and Counselling services offer a holistic blend of Recreation Therapy and Social Work principles, designed to support individuals and families in building emotional resilience, life skills, and meaningful relationships.

Led by a Registered Social Worker (RSW) or a trained practitioner under RSW supervision, sessions are strengths-based, trauma-informed, and goal-focused—meeting clients where they are and supporting them as they grow.

  • Coping Strategies & Personal Development

  • Life Skills, Routines & Executive Functioning

  • Family Systems Support & Parent Coaching

  • Autism Connection Program (OAP-Eligible)

Whether working one-on-one or with families, we focus on building confidence, connection, and practical strategies that support everyday success.

Sessions are available for:

  • Children, youth, and adults

  • Parents and caregivers seeking guidance or connection

  • Families navigating disability, neurodiversity, or complex needs

 

With a flexible approach that integrates therapeutic conversation, activity-based learning, and emotional support, we ensure each session feels both grounded and empowering.
